Open Mat / Ukemi / Yudansha Classes – Sundays

We typically hold monthly Sunday open mat sessions  – a time for test preparation, and/or to train specific techniques or concepts of interest under the supervision of senior students (but with slightly less regular class structure).  Available to students of Aikido.
The first Sunday of the month is usually Ukemi Class, where training focuses on the finer aspect of being uke (the role of providing a safe attack and receiving the results of whatever technique we are practicing).
Once a month (typically the third Sunday, but check schedule for changes) there is a Yudansha Class, training time reserved for dan (black-belt ranked) students – observers welcome.

Introduction to Aikido course

Held twice a year; runs for four weeks. Beginners can attend any of the Basic classes listed above during the four weeks. The next Introduction course will begin October 1st, 2018. Details Here

Zen Meditation

Aikido of Madison hosts a Zen meditation group led by Meido Moore Roshi, abbot of Korinji Rinzai Zen monastery and guiding teacher of the Madison Rinzai Zen Community. The practice is weekly, on Sundays from 12:30-2pm.

Zen meditation has a long history of association with martial arts study. Sessions feature internal energy cultivation exercises transmitted in the Rinzai Zen lineage, and include formal Zen practice such as meditation (zazen), chanting (okyo), and individual interviews with the teacher (dokusan). All are welcome! Beginners will be given instruction to meet their needs and conditions. Each meeting ends with open discussion.

Current members of Aikido of Madison may attend this weekly training free of charge. Others are requested to give a suggested donation of $10 to support the dojo.
